Rainbow Christ Prayer Revised for the Current Progress Pride Flag - May 2023 Edition

The Rainbow Christ Prayer, was written by Kittredge Cherry and Patrick S. Cheng in 2012, and celebrates the spiritual values of the LGBT+ community and the universal symbol of hope and inclusivity embodied in rainbows. The authors aimed to create a prayer that recognized the beauty and sacredness of all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The prayer has become an affirmation of the LGBT+ community's spiritual values and a reminder of the power of rainbows to inspire hope and connection. You can find the original prayer here.

In 2023, Shane revised the Rainbow Christ Prayer to reflect the ever evolving and inclusive nature of the LGBT+ community, much like the evolution of the Pride flag to the current Progress Pride flag. Our adaptation of the prayer includes the colours and symbolism of the original Pride flag, as well as the additional stripes representing marginalized groups such as people of colour, transgender and non-binary individuals, and intersex people. The prayer honours and celebrates the beauty and diversity of all people, advocating for their full inclusion within the community. It serves as a reminder of our shared humanity and the importance of love, acceptance, and understanding for all.

The May 2023 edition of the Rainbow Christ Prayer, now incorporates the current Progress Pride Flag, revised by Shane St. Reynolds. The original authors of the prayer are Cherry and Cheng.

Let us pray:

Rainbow Christ, you embody all the colours of the world and make rainbows as a promise to support all life on earth. Inspire us to remember the values expressed in the Pride flag of the LGBT+ community.

Red is for life, the root of spirit. Free us from shame and grant us the grace of healthy pride.

Orange is for healing, the fire of spirit. Free us from harm and grant us the grace of restoration.

Yellow is for sunlight, the source of spirit. Free us from darkness and grant us the grace of illumination.

Green is for nature, the embodiment of spirit. Free us from destruction and grant us the grace of restoration.

Blue is for serenity, the calm of spirit. Free us from chaos and grant us the grace of peace.

Purple is for spirit, the essence of our being. Free us from limitation and grant us the grace of transformation.

Black and brown stripes represent people of colour. Free us from discrimination and grant us the grace of love and acceptance.

The light blue, pink, and white stripes represent transgender and non-binary people. Empower us to be our authentic selves.

The circle represents intersex individuals. Advocate for their full inclusion within our community.

Rainbow colours come together to make one light, the crown of universal consciousness. Free us from rigid categories and grant us the grace of interwoven identities.

Rainbow Christ, guide us on our journey towards greater love, acceptance, and understanding. May your rainbow light shine upon us, illuminating the path towards a more just and compassionate world.

In your many names we pray, Amen.
